@BeYourPotential Yes the opposite of what you would normally think of in weight lifting. You should breath in while drawing the arms in to the chest, and exale on the upward or downward motion of the squat. I’ve seen it performed both ways. I personally exale on the way down in the squat, so as to deflate the chest and abs while the body is contracted during the squat. Then forcefully explode up and inhale on the next row of the arms coming in toward the chest
@1969jmac Thanks! What I recommend is all breathing through the nose and breathing out as you go down and in as you come up. Is this aligned with your thoughts on the matter?
Great video man. However I would like to add that just like others that are demonstrating the hindu squat and pushup. Everyone seems to be leaving out one vitally important part of the exercise. There is a certain way you need to breath when performing this exercise and very few people show this in their videos

@intrigued1231 You are quite right. Just let the heel come naturally off the ground, so you are on the balls of your feet, keeping feet facing forward.
It would have been great to have been able to see your feet and toes??

Good for you man! I am 5’11 and I weighed 280lbs at 20 years old, I’m 22 now and down to 190lbs and feeling great. I still have some some excess fat but still steadily improving. I feel so much healthier and am able to move and function in ways I never imagined I could before. Much more strength, stamina, and flexibility. My advice is stick to bodyweight exercise unless you just want to bulk up, it’s all I’ve done. That and I drink only water now, aside from rare occasions.
Thakns for clearing up the knee thing. I don’t own any weights or belong to a gym so I sometimes forget that most people are talking about weighted exercises, whereas I’m only interested in what I can do with my own body (not looking to “get big” or bulk up, just trying to lose the flab and get some lean muscle going).
Nice work. I hurt my back after many years of heavy barbell squats. When I recover, I will practice the Hindu squat.

I have finally started doing them, man this has me banged up quite a bit. I weigh less than when I said I was going to do them (might have not been a good idea at 267 pounds) If I feel knee pain how do I correct this?

Thanks so much for explaining the knees-over-toes thing. First time I tried Hindu squats, I thought they were easy; then couldn’t walk the next morning. A week later, I heard “don’t let your knees go forward” for the first time and I’ve been worrying about which one is right ever since. Big weight off my mind. I’m getting back to hindu squatting tomorrow.
i did 4 sets of 20 and my legs were like jelly afterwards. that was yesterday. now i can barely walk from muscle soreness. good pain just can’t do crap. these are seriously tough but beneficial.

@HonkIfYouLoveHonking It would certainly add some more resistance. As long as your movements are fluid without jerkiness and you already have the technique down then it would be ok.
Would it be a good (or bad) idea to use weighted gloves?
Unweighted or body weight only the knee should be fine in many positions on fit healthy people , Looks like a great exercise for coordination I’m reading “combat conditioning” and its highly recommended.

@vibit7 I did 35 today. Plus over the course of the day I pumped out 50 pushups. I also held a bridge exercise for my core. It doesn’t take much. I’ve just been patient and start adding in small amounts of bodyweight exercises and watched myself develop.

I’m about 310 lbs with 45-50 percent body fat and I did 20 of these last night because of listening to Joe Rogan’s podcast. Wow! My legs are jacked today. I took today off and maybe tommorow and then I’ll see if I can do 25. Gotta start small when you’re out of shape.

@jadelion11 You start flat footed, and as you smoothly move down you will end up on your toes and balls of your feet. Keep your back straight as can be and feet about shoulder width apart. In my case I drop to about 85-90% of my total way down and come back up to flat footed. I found dropping 100% of the way down ended up bothering my knee joints over time so thats what works for me.
Let your heels naturally come off the ground and your knees bend naturally as well while keeping your back straight.
