Many Uses Of The Medicine Ball

Many Uses Of The Medicine Ball

Fitness experts have become very creative in finding new ways to use the med ball. It  is such a versatile piece of exercise equipment that it can be used in basically all kinds of training. It is especially useful in home gyms when used in circuit training programs. In these types of programs you are moving from one exercise to another in an attempt to get a complete workout. As you transition from one exercise to another, the medicine ball is the perfect complement to most of the other exercise equipment that you have.

Unlike in the past, you can find medicine balls in pretty much any sports store. Also known as med balls or fitness balls, they come in all sizes. Men tend to use the heavier ones as a complement to their weight building program. Women tend to use the lighter ones in conjunction with their fitness routines.

The medicine ball is a common fixture in many sports and training programs across the U.S. And that’s because it is such a versatile piece of equipment. For example, most sports usually require that the athlete be capable of explosive actions. This means that the muscles must be able to contract and the nerves must be able to react at a fast pace. One way of training these muscles and nerves to do just that is to have the athlete perform plyometrics exercises. These exercises are designed to train the muscles to use their power in bursts of rapid explosions.

]]>

For instance, weight lifters and body builders have worked hard to train their muscles to be very powerful and to lift enormous weights. But, the sport of weight lifting, does not require that the athlete be fast.

But with athletes like foot ball players, the goal is a bit different. Especially for those that play on the offensive and defensive lines. Like weight lifters, they are required to have a lot of strength. And they all perform weight lifting to build up that strength. But, football players are also required to have explosive speed when coming off of the ball or trying to get to the opposing quarterback.

Trainers build exercises utilizing the medicine ball in an effort to assist in building that explosive speed. A football player who trains with weights but without the medicine ball, or a piece of equipment that does the same function, would surely be strong and powerful. But he would most likely be too slow to play in the NFL.

Those who have managed to put together their own home gym, will find that the medicine ball has so many potential uses in exercise routines that it can legitimately be considered as a core piece of fitness equipment. This is especially true if you play sports. The endurance and strength that you will need for many sports can only be helped by integrating a medicine ball into your training routine.

It is true to claim that individuals come in countless varieties of shapes and sizes, we simultaneously have extremely distinctive ideas of what the ideal body to them looks like and what features they would like to enrich, for example a European football player would probably not need a especially formidable upper body whereas a basket ball player will probably need both equally a formidable upper and lower body. Since there is a considerable amount to cater for there are simultaneously a great deal of models of medicine balls out there, each of which will benefit contrasting medicine ball workouts moderately differently. Some are specifically designed to rebound others are fashioned to be thrown long distances and others are produced to be effortlessly graspable to allow for them to be lifted for prolonged periods of time. We will look at the various variations and give you a more lucid idea of the kind that you should look in to and use for your medicine ball workouts.Natural leather Medicine BallsThe leather medicine ball is the old fashioned one, you can just picture the boxing greats like Joe Louis doing his medicine ball workouts with this ball and of course the famous rocky workout montages, these balls are subsequently a most popular for boxer and other types of types of fighting sports, predominately because of their old classic design and meaning and due to the fact they are easy to use, and are excellent for heavy throwing, faultless for strengthening those jabs. These balls historically come in the same weight and size ranging from only 12 to 14 pounds. In conclusion the leather medicine ball is a status symbol of timeless design much like the chuck taylor converses, while they also give you a arduous workout.Soft Gel BallThis ball is largely crafted from a light plastic, and is stuffed with a gel to decrease impact when they hit a surface. This disposition to absorb impacts suggests that they do not rebound, this is really effective for medicine ball workouts where a lot of throwing is carried out, as there is nothing worse then aiming to concentrate on a certain workout and have to run after your ball after every rep. These balls are further more beneficial in that they are inclined to be the cheapest whilst still being quite resilient, their weights and sizes are also a lot more numerous contrary to the classic leather ones.

The Medicine Ball

The Medicine Ball

One of the more interesting exercises you can do to increase the fun-level of your abdominal workouts is to use a medicine ball. The added bonus of using a medicine ball is that it can give you added weight for your workouts and as well as provide a good source of resistance training.

Medicine balls are reasonably priced and are usually found in sizes that range from two to twenty pound balls. As with any new exercise regime you will want to start slow, with a relatively small medicine ball and work yourself up to a larger size. Make sure that you are not trying to overdo your physical limitations to prevent injuring yourself. Always stretch really well prior to working out with medicine balls and again after you complete your workout routine.

One exercise that you can do with a medicine ball is the standing twist. To do this exercise, you grasp the medicine ball with both hands while standing with your knees slightly bent. You will turn your body to the left as far as you can turn; you should feel tightness and resistance, but no pain. If you are feeling pain, you are twisting too far. Once you have turned to the left swing all the way back to the right, making sure to go as far as you can without pain. While doing this exercise, tighten your abs and keep a firm core the entire time that you are doing the exercise.

Another exercise that you can do is the oblique. To do this exercise, lay flat on the floor. Bring your knees up to about a 45 degree angle. Place the medicine ball in between your knees and bring your knees up to a ninety degree angle and lift them up off from the floor. Keeping your back straight, rotate your knees side to side. For stability, you need to place your arms straight out perpendicular to your body with your palms flat on the ground.

A third exercise that you can perform with a medicine ball is the reverse curl. You begin this by laying flat on your back with your knees at a ninety degree angle with the medicine ball between your legs. This exercise is completed by lifting your knees and bringing them to your chest and returning to the starting position, keeping your abs tight throughout each movement.

When conducting these exercises, it is imperative that you stretch both before and after you get done working out. It is recommended that you complete one to three sets of eight to ten reps per set. Start slow and you will feel yourself getting stronger. Once you have gotten to where the ball is not adding very much resistance, move to a bigger ball. Using medicine balls in you abdominal workouts can make your workouts more fun because it will provide a change to your workout routine.

Medicine Balls: Why Use Them for Your Exercise Program

Medicine Balls: Why Use Them for Your Exercise Program

Article by Daniel Larsen

A medicine ball is a weighted ball roughly the diameter of the shoulders. Considered one of the oldest forms of strength and conditioning training, it dates back to Persia nearly 3000 years ago.Medicine balls are used to improve the strength of abdominal muscles and to increase core strength. Lifting the ball or performing different exercises (such as sit-ups and leg raises) with the ball increases the stress on a particular muscle.Medicine Balls are perfect for total body fitness training. Total body training helps develop muscular strength, power, and stability. Medicine balls help build and tone muscles, while improving coordination and endurance during aerobic or strength training workouts.

There are many different ways you can utilize them in your workouts; however, as with all physical activities, please consult your doctor before you begin any kind of exercise program.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about them is the way boxers use them to strengthen their abdominal muscles. As part of their training, the ball is dropped on their stomach, simulating a punch coming from an opponent. Ouch! I don

Walking Medicine Ball Lunge – Stand up straight with the exercise ball above your head stand with your feet at shoulder width apart, step ahead and lunge down as in a standard lunge maintaining the medicine ball above your head, step right back up to the straight position and lung forward with the other foot. This workout works the lower body, mainly the hamstring which is the muscle on the back of your leg, it also works the core because the medicine ball is above your head the core or torso is tensing up to try and maintain the body balanced as you have adjusted the centre of gravity. If you do this work out appropriately and often enough you will see your stomach changing for the better.

Medicine Ball Pullover on Swiss Ball – This work out is excellent for the chest and lower back. Lay down on the swiss ball with your front facing upwards, have the ball preceding your head and steadily lift it upwards to the sky and then slowly lower it. You will find yourself straining for air, so you need to be alert of your breathing as you do this exercise. Take a breath as you lower the medicine ball and exhale as you lift it up, and at no point should you hold your breathe, always keep your breathing regular and relaxed. This activity is incredible for the chest and lower back, as it is these muscles which contract to achieve the movement.

Left to Right Twist – This work out works the core and more appropriately the oblique’s. Handle the ball in front of yourself with your arms bent at 90 degrees, and twist your torso from left to right in a slow motion halting at each end of the motion. You will feel a strain in the torso and a absence of breath, so it is suggested to breathe in whilst the ball is in front and exhale when you reach the end of each movement, and never hold your breath.

The Trunk Twist – This http://medicineballworkoutssite.com/medicine ball workout is similar to the other, only the twist is done with one hand and the medicine ball is passed on to the other hand as you twist. The left hand should carry the ball as you twist to the left and so on. Yet again pursue the same guidelines as the former workout. This work out is more a question of time rather than reps. 10 seconds ought to be one entire rep, the optimum time for this workout ought to be close to two minutes, and since it is focused at the cores it can be used to rest the arms between workouts.

Medicine Ball Training Exercises

Medicine Ball Training Exercises

Article by Marc D.

The medicine ball, if used properly, can be an extremely effective tool for torso and upper body training. It is an excellent method to translate your abdominal and upper body strength into explosive action required in many sports such as hockey, tennis, baseball and golf.

Let’s start with the basics. Choosing the right medicine ball is paramount to not injuring yourself and to get the most out of your workout. Here are some general guidelines as to the preferred medicine ball weight depending on your body weight:

1 Kg ball for someone weighing between 100 – 140lbs2 Kg ball for someone weighing between 140-175 lbs3 kg ball for someone weighing between 175-200 lbs4 kg ball for someone weighing between 200-225 lbs

Front Twist Medicine Ball ThrowThrow the medicine ball 10 times against the wall or to another partner working out with you. The set should be done for each side rather than alternating from your right and left sides. To do a front twist throw, place the ball on the side of your hip and then throw it underhand with both hands as you extend out in front of your body. Your feet should be facing the wall or your throwing partner.

Alternating Front Twist Medicine Ball ThrowVery similar to the previous exercise, but this time, alternate your throws from right to left. Remember to concentrate on your style as it should be as coordinated and smooth as possible. The more comfortable you get, the harder you will be able to throw it without loosing form.

Side Twist Medicine Ball ThrowTurn your body so that either the left or right side of your body is facing the wall. Use a similar motion as previously described where you are placing the medicine ball at hip height and then rotating towards the wall until you let go of it when you are facing it. It’s important to initiate the movement by using the strength of your back foot.

Back Twist Medicine Ball ThrowStart with your back facing the wall or your throwing partner. Then rotate to one side, turning towards the wall as you let go of the medicine ball. You should achieve 180 degrees of rotation in your torso during this exercise. As you become more flexible, try holding the ball higher up towards the shoulders. Be sure to start slowly as this exercise is extremely demanding on your back. You may want to start off with a medicine ball that weighs less.

Front Twist Throw on One LegThis exercise is an excellent option to work on ankle, knee and hip stability. To perform it, line up exactly as described above for the front twist medicine ball throw, only lift one foot about 6 inches off the ground at all times. You will likely find it difficult to keep your balance as you throw and catch the medicine ball but after some practice, you’ll enjoy a much stronger sense of balance.

Why Medicine Ball Is So Popular With Athletes?

Why Medicine Ball Is So Popular With Athletes?

Article by Daniel J.Fox

The other names for this ball are exercise ball, gym ball, stability ball, fitness ball, fit ball, therapy ball, balance ball or medicine ball. The exercises with this ball are known by different names as exercise ball exercises, fitnessball exercises, fitnessball workoutgs, medicine ball exercise, etc. The size and weight make the medicine ball the ideal piece of exercise equipment for people of all ages and fitness levels. Medicine balls are available in various weights and sizes, perfect for all ages and fitness levels.

The medicine ball is used to develop different forms of strength, such as, eccentric strength and concentric strength. Concentric strength is used when throwing a medicine ball, pushing a medicine ball or pressing a medicine ball. Eccentric strength is used to catch a medicine ball and slow it down.

These general medicine ball drills develop strength and power throughout the torso, laying the foundation for the future use of specific medicine ball drills. Likewise, bench-press strength advanced by 23 % for the weight-trained athletes but inched upward by just 9 per cent for medicine-ball tossers.

Weight training proved to be far superior to medicine ball workouts, both in terms of bench-press power and throwing speed. Weight-trained athletes upgraded their baseball throwing velocity by 4.1 per cent, while medicine-ball men enhanced throwing by a statistically insignificant 1.6 percent. Control individuals also failed to improve their throwing.

Many weight-training group work out twice a week, utilizing barbell bench press and barbell pullover exercises. For the first four weeks, weight trainers completed three sets of eight- to 10-repetition max exercise per workout for both the bench presses and barbell pullovers (in other words, they used weights which could be lifted only eight to 10 times per set). For the final four weeks, employ three sets of six- to eight-RM for each exercise. All weights were lifted in a slow, controlled manner – not explosively. Medicine-ball, weight-trained, and control athletes all participated in their regular baseball workouts during the eight-week period. After eight weeks, all athletes were tested for maximal baseball throwing velocity and bench-press strength.

When you activate your II-B fibers with this explosive medicine-ball workout, you’ll see big gains in strength, size and speed. The medicine ball will help you achieve fitness that emphasizes not just strength, but also explosive power, core stability and split-second responses.
