Adjustable dumbbell weights provide a great workout that is easy on the joints. They are versatile as they may be used both for developing lean muscle without adding muscle size and for increasing muscle size and strength. They are also convenient as they are easy to store, the weight is easy to change, and they provide a gymnasium quality workout. Since the movement used in lifting these weights is very natural, less pressure is placed on the joints compared to using a rigid barbell set.
Adjustable dumbbell weights may be used for developing lean muscle without adding muscle size by using a weight which can be lifted more than ten times. Working out with such higher repetitions will provide a good cardiovascular workout and will sculpt the muscles.Adjustable dumbbell weights may also be used for increasing muscle size and strength. This is achieved by lifting heavier weight. The proper weight to use for this type of workout is a weight that can’t be lifted more than ten times. This workout is more along the line of a bodybuilding workout without the cardiovascular effects of the higher repetition workout.
Accordingly, a workout in which more than ten repetitions is performed is appropriate for lean muscle development while a workout in which less than ten heavier repetitions is performed is appropriate for increased muscle and strength. These workouts may also be alternated with one month dedicated to the heavier weight workouts and one month dedicated to the lighter weight workouts. Such alternating will also keep the routine fresher and more interesting.
The same exercises can be performed regardless of which type of workout is done. Squats in which the dumbbell weights are placed on the shoulders are an excellent lower body exercise. Bent-over rows are an excellent exercise for the back. Shoulder presses will develop strong shoulders and triceps muscles. Curls will develop the biceps, forearms, and hand grip. Finally, the dumbbells themselves can be used as pushup bars for performing deep pushups. These deep pushups are an excellent exercise for the chest, shoulders, triceps, and the remainder of the body.
To conclude, adjustable dumbbell weights provide a natural workout that places less strain on the joints as compared to using a rigid barbell set. They provide versatile workouts which are effective for both developing lean muscle and for increasing muscle and strength. They are also convenient since changing weights is easy and storage needs are minimal. Therefore, this versatile and convenient equipment is ideal for a home gymnasium.
