10 Tips for Building a YouTube Strategy For Your Business
Article by Vanessa Reece
If youÂ’re looking for tips for building a YouTube strategy for your business youÂ’ve come to the right place!
Some of you know that I began marketing ‘me’ on YouTube via a well known pop video so I know all about using the power of Youtube in order to build a brand. What I didn’t do way back then is actually use that to make video for profit.
I haven’t tackled YouTube in earnest in quite some time – but I thought this time of year is as good as any to give you some tips for building a YouTube strategy for your business.
Let me start by saying you donÂ’t have to be in front of the camera to make successful YouTube videos. You can actually do information videos for your prospective clients and customers with slideshows/Powerpoint presentations filmed with Camtasia or one picture with an audio over the top.
Obviously your brand and niche will determine which route is best for you.
For example: If youÂ’re a fitness instructor then people are going to want to see the exercises in action or they may want to see a piece to camera where you talk about specific nutritional needs for people that exercise.
The tips IÂ’m going to give you involve the basics of getting your video seen by the search engines.
I just tested my know-how today just to see if my knowledge was up to par to share and this is what happened. IÂ’ll admit before this IÂ’ve been quite lazy with strategy but thatÂ’s okay. IÂ’m fired up now IÂ’ve seen these new amazing results!
I just did a simple promo video in Powerpoint and Camtasia Studio (Camtasia has a 30 day free trial by the way) and used a popular keyword phrase to name the file when saving it.
When I uploaded the file to YouTube I used the same keyword phrase in the title and used it again in the first sententence of the description.
Within an hour my Youtube link for that video was number one in Google, and when I posted the same video here ,using that same keyword phrase, the link posted here showed up on page one of Google also.
So I have two different links to the same video on the first page of Google, plus I have my site links posted on that video in the description which obviously helps the link back power to those sites.
Because YouTube has a lot more authority than my site it made sense that the video link via YouTube showed up as number one!
Remember: Youtube is the worlds second biggest search engine
The video I uploaded was more a long term promo rather than an instant customer sales video so I have yet to see montary results from it but the fact that itÂ’s showing up very quickly in the Google and capturing the number one spot shows the power of YouTube video.
ItÂ’s important to note that this keyword phrase has roughly 10,500,000 results but the general keyword phrase is not highly competitive. Results will vary significantly with keyword competition.
Use Google Keywords tool to find out if your keyword phrase is highly competitive, and of course try and rework it into a less competitive phrase to give you a better chance to be seen.
10 YouTube Strategy Tips
1. Set up a YouTube channel and be sure to place your business keywords description space with your . Use your logo or consistent profile picture.
2. Upload your videos in the best format possible and name them with your keyword phrase.
3. Use the keyword phrase in your tags as well as the first sentence in the description.
4. Add your site URL to the description of all videos (be sure to make it the full URL with http:// so itÂ’s clickable)
5. Go and find other channels in your niche and subscribe and add them as friends.
6. Interact if you get comments on your videos.
7. If your video has audio then you can write a transcript or brief description of the key points in the video description – this is more for userbility for anyone hearing impaired.
8. Write a blog post and include your keyword in the title and main post.
9. Promote your videos through social networks.
10. Rinse and repeat
James Wedmore and David Powers have created a fantastic program which guides you through not only the practical but the psychological aspect of YouTube viewers and why seemingly gaining a large, loyal viewer ship is key to creating profit for your business.
David Powers himself started off just showing people how to make miniature planes and now he has a multi-million dollar business from it all because he did that via Youtube. Amazing! You can learn more about their program at http://shmyl.com/ceyhton
The lessons in their program are very detailed and I have to thank them for igniting my marketing interest in YouTube as a business owner. IÂ’ll be really working YouTube a whole lot more in 2011.
Happy profit video making,
Vanessa
