If you prefer to do them at home, you may be more comfortable performing this exercise on a yoga mat, towel or any other soft surface you can put between you and the floor. Muscles Worked ——————————————————————— This exercise works your rectus abdominis muscles, which are the major muscle group in your core and the muscles responsible for the six-pack look. Mountain climbers also work your deltoids, which are your shoulder muscle; your gluteus maximus, which are your butt muscles, and your quadriceps, which are located on the front side of your thighs.c 1. Start off in plank pose: Lie on your stomach on your mat. Raise yourself onto your elbows and feet so that your entire body resembles a inclined plank of wood. Contract your abs. 2. Bend your left knee and step up towards your chest. 3. As you return your left leg to the starting position, you should also bring your right leg up to your chest at the same time. 4. Simple Postures for Male Yoga Exercises for Abs

Simple Postures for Male Yoga Exercises for Abs

Article by Brian Shelton

Many men believe that the only way to get the flat, six-pack that they are after is through intense anaerobic exercises and hundreds of crunches. While these methods certainly have been proven to work, there is a better solution to get your ideal abs.

Male yoga exercises for abs not only target the stomach region, but they increase flexibility as well. For centuries, people wanting to increase their posture, strength and overall physical condition have relied on yoga. Yoga will also help you balance your mind, body and spirit through a series of physical exercises.

All of these male yoga exercises for abs will elongate your abdominal muscles to create the lean, tight middle that you are after. Practicing these yoga poses regularly will sculpt your abs and increase your muscle tone all over your body. Talk about getting a package deal!

Crunches are definitely the most popular non-yoga method to sculpt abs. But this yoga take on the classic crunch will definitely increase your muscle tone. Lie on your back and bring your knees slowly to your chest. Then raise your legs with your feet flexed toward the ceiling. Concentrate on using your ab muscles to guide your legs down toward your chest again. Stop if you feel your back arching, and try to regain control of your legs. Build up to doing 10 repetitions in a row.

The following standing male yoga exercises for abs will lengthen your body and improve posture, in addition to defining your middle area.

Perform the Mountain Tilt from a standing position with both arms and your sides and your feet distanced hip-width apart. First, raise your left arm above your head and point your fingers upwards. Bend sideways at the waist and extend up and out toward your right. Hold this posture for a few seconds, return to your starting pose and repeat on the right side. Do both sides 3 to 5 times to begin with.

The Triangle pose, a popular male yoga exercise for abs, begins with your feet distanced about 3-feet apart. Turn your left foot out 90 degrees and keep your right foot pointing directly forward. Extend your arms out on either side of you at shoulder length. Then slowly bend to your right at your waist, and keep your chest facing forward. Place your right hand on your shin and point your left hand up to the sky. Hold this posture for 15 seconds and then return to your starting position. Switch feet and sides, and complete three poses on each side.

These are just a few of many male yoga exercises for abs that can build strong muscles in your midsection. Practicing these daily is beneficial for your body, as well as your abs.

Hand Position During Ab Exercises

www.scoobysworkshop.com Every time I do an ab video the subject of what to do with the hands comes up. I show how I think the hands should be held during ab exercisees and I lots of irate viewers telling me I am wrong. In this video I’m going to explain WHY the hands should be held lightly behind the head during crunches. First of all, humans evolved to walk upright with the head held high. For tens of thousands of years humans have been gathering berries, hunting. All vertical, kinda balancing our heads on top of our bodies. So When the body becomes horizontal, what happens? The head falls. To couteract this the neck muscles have to work really hard to keep the head stationary. Our neck muscsles have not evolved to support the head horizontally like those of a lion or horse. If a person stays in this position long, they will get serious muscle strain. Now I can hear you saying, “well you need to work on your neck strength” – thats TRUE but dont let that interfere with your ab workout. Strengthen you neck during your neck workout, not during your ab workout. So here is what you need to do when performing crunches. You lift up with your hands just enough so that you can relax your neck muscles and still have your head stay horizontal. You dont push so hard that your head wants to fly up and you dont let it droop. Another misconception is about leverage. Many people think that its just as good a workout to hold the hands over the abs as it is to have the hands behind the

Exercises For Abs – The Truth About Getting a Six Pack

Exercises For Abs – The Truth About Getting a Six Pack

Article by Matt Mossap

OK, so you’re reading this in the hopes to get incredible abs right? You’re looking for “the secret?” Well I’ll let you in on something, there is no secret!

Will killing yourself with tons of exercises for abs help you to get your abs to show? Sure they will… but there’s more to it. If anything, I would recommend some good exercises for abs to get a strong solid core to aid you in other muscle building exercises. If you’re doing the right exercises, yet lack in the most vital area to showing your abs, you’ll get nowhere. Let’s get to it.

Common Sense Secret to Abs #1: Body Fat

This is it… this is basically the secret… low body fat. Yup, sorry to disappoint you, but you’re simply not going to get a six pack unless you have very low body fat (say under around 8% or so). No matter how hard you work, or how many exercises for abs you do, they’re not going to show if you have a layer of fat covering them. You might have some damn strong abs under there, but if you want that sexy six pack, you’re gonna have to burn off some fat.

Honestly, if your body fat is low enough and you work out regularly, you probably don’t even need to do much abs exercise to get a six pack (unless you’re really genetically unblessed). I’ve seen guys who do no abs whatsoever, yet have a very low body fat percentage, and thus great abs. Yes some people need to work the abs harder than others to show them, but losing body fat is your first step to great abs.

Common Sense Secret to Abs #2: Nutrition

So how are you gonna lose that body fat? It’s basically all nutrition. You really don’t even need to do cardio if you eat properly… it’s as simple as that. Eat fewer calories than you burn in a day, and you will lose weight (sure it may take some a little cardio to do this, others not). I know I’m stating the obvious, but so many people lack this simple step.

Common Sense Secret to Abs #3: Ab Exercises

Like I stated previously, if your body fat is low enough, you may not even need to exercise your abs to have a nice muscular stomach… some will have to though.

Personally, I hate doing situps and crunches, and I don’t think they’re the most effective exercises for abs anyway. If you’re looking for something new, try some hanging leg raises. Essentially hang from a bar, extend your legs outwards, and lift them as high up as possible. Chances are you won’t be able to get them horizontally without bending your knees. This doesn’t sound like much, but it will work out your abs hard. If you’re having a lot of trouble, bend your knees all the way, and try to touch your knees to your chest… hold this as long as possible. This is a simple, awesome ab exercise.

Another very little known amazing total core exercise is the Turkish getup. I will not try to explain this here, but search it on YouTube, and you’ll find some great results on how to do one.

So that does it for this article, so get losing some body fat and get those abs to show!
