The tummy is one of the most common area of the body that people want to work out these days. You can ask any women what part of the body they are most attracted to and the straight forward answer is: The Stomach. Any man wants a six pack and I am sure you aren’t any different. Below are some of the most effective ab workout routines (for both men and woman) that you can do to achieve a flat, firm and sexy abdomen.

Knee Raises

An effective ab routine but not for the less experienced. You will need a few attempts before performing it correctly. Get yourself a chin up bar, grab it with your hands. Try to hold you body still without swinging or rocking while you slowly bring you knees towards your abdomen at a 90 degree angle (watch your abs contraction). Do four sets of twenty reps with five minute breaks in between.

Crunches

Place a mat on the floor and lie down on your back with your legs straight and raise your knees a little. With your hands behind your head raise your head slowly from the mat while watching your abdominal muscles contraction. Maintain the position for 3 seconds and slowly bring your head back on the mat. Three sets of twenty reps should be done with three minutes break in between. You can do thirty reps when you get more used.

Simple Knee-Ups

To do this routine simply right on the side of bench and hold on to the sides. Slowly extend both legs outwards and pull the knees slowly up to your chest. Hold your knees there for 2 seconds and then repeat. Do four sets of fifteen reps with 3 minute breaks in between.

These are the most effective ab workout routines that you should do at least two times a week for a flat and firm abdomen. Keep in mind that workouts should be accompanied by a proper nutrition.

As the largest muscle group in the upper body, the chest muscles require specific targeted exercises. Known as pectoralis, or “pecs”, the chest muscles are fan shaped and rather thick. Since these muscles are so big, the only real way to effectively build them is by using heavy weight and dedicating a day in the gym to their development.

An important note: the pecs are considered pushing muscles. This means that they tie in very closely with your arms and shoulders – specifically your deltoids and triceps. After completing your chest workout routine, it is natural to feel that these other muscle groups have been worked a bit as well. Also, you should know that the amount of weight used in your workout directly effects the spread, depth, and size of your pecs. Heavy weight use is recommended, since that is the only way to effectively tear the muscles.

A quick overview of exercises that target the pecs:

Bench Press – this is definitely the “go-to” chest exercise. As there are many different ways to do this, lets review the basics. While laying on a flat bench, use a wide grip on the bar. Lower the bar to your upper chest/lower neck area. Repeat.

This exercise is diverse. Changing the grip and where the bar is lowered to changes the area of the muscle that is impacted (inner, outer, upper, lower). Also, using a decline or incline bench will effect different areas of the muscle.

Dumbbell Exercises – free weights can be used to imitate a number of machine and bar exercises. For example, I like to use dumbbells to do incline bench press. They work well for flies, which are a great exercise for stretching the muscle.

Parallel Bar Dips – this one is tough if you have never done it before. With hands placed at shoulders width apart, lower your and raise your body between a set of parallel bars. Widening the hands places more stress on the outer pecs and deltoids.

Pushups – this is another classic yet super effective chest exercise. When you think about it, these simply imitate the bench press but use your bodyweight instead of a bar.

It is agreed upon in the exercise community that a good chest workout routine begins with the heavier weight exercises such as the bench press, works on through dumbbell exercises, and finishes with bodyweight exercises.

There is much desire on many gym denizens’ part to develop the chest to a great degree. This is why some will hit the gym and perform the same chest workouts over and over again in a tireless manner. Honestly, some people do achieve great gains from such a workout approach. The legendary bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno was known for performing the same chest workouts time and time again, year after year and attaining great benefits from doing so. However, there will be those that point out they do not attain much benefit from the same old workout over and over again. Such individuals will need a little variety in their workout.

Let the truth be told: variety in chest workouts is important. The reasons for this are varied which is why it is so helpful to look towards altering your workouts as frequently as possible. The goal here is to ensure effective and consistent improvements in your muscle development. Sometimes, this may not be possible when you do the same tired old workout.

One thing that needs to be understood here is that the muscles grow when they are impacted with new stimulus. Conversely, they may cease to react when they experience the same tired stress that they are used to. Mixing up the exercises that you perform in your chest workouts keep the muscles from becoming used to the sessions. This aids in ensuring that the muscles react positively to whatever workout you put them through.
