That simplistic method of getting your best body fast is just another name for low calorie dieting. These diets generally do not work because when you drastically reduce calories you are not providing your body with the nutrition it needs and it starts metabolizing muscle tissue and torturing you with cravings until you give in and go on an eating binge. If you do have the will power to make it, it becomes very hard to maintain the your best body because your body has reduced its metabolism in order to overcome what it senses is starvation. When you start eating normally again, you have to eat even less in order to maintain your weight and this keeps the body in defensive mode until, again, you give in, go on an eating binge and gain back all the weight you lost plus more. These diets just don’t work.

When I give my boot camp ladies the option to decide on a workout theme they always come back to the same thing: let’s do a muffin top workout. They’re not alone…. the stomach and love handle area is the zone most common that women hate the most about their bodies… so what are you doing about it?

But keep in mind say you want to get a better bod is much different than actually takes steps to make it happen. Yes there are dozens of ab machines and stomach toning gear out on the market but none of them will deliver the results that you want because there is no such thing as spot reduction. Doing core moves alone is not going to provide an exercise to burn belly fat… it’s just going to tone the muscles that lay under the flab.

Plan Out Your Workouts. Having your workout plans in front of you when you hit the gym makes it so much easier, you know what you have to do… there is no time to waste. In fact there are even more hilarious ways to justify being overweight. The fact is that having love handles can be very embarrassing for a lot of people. No one likes having their flabby belly hanging over the top of their pants. Even when you give that a cute name like “muffin top” the appearance of love handles is something that most people try to downplay. Luckily you are not forced to live with them. We discuss some great ideas for ridding yourself of those “muffin tops”.

As you already know, exercise is the most effective way to get rid of love handles. You probably know that not every exercise will work for what you need done. It is important to note that aerobic exercise is the best exercise for your task. With aerobic exercise you will notice an increased heart rate and better blood flow. This type of exercise requires more energy than most other types which then forces you to burn fat storage’s for energy helping you drop the weight.. A good habit to get into is exercising aerobically a minimum of three times per week for at least 30 minutes. In order to really burn some fat you will need to increase that to 4 if not 5 times per week. Another helpful tip is to practice proper posture. Burn calories by standing straight and sitting up correctly all day. Energy use requires the use of calories. In the beginning, sitting up straight can be an exercise if you aren’t use to it. In addition to helping you burn calories, practicing proper posture can help reduce the appearance of the love handles that you are carrying around. Especially when you are walking around. Also, you look better when you have proper posture. The more you slouch the bigger your love handles look.

It’s a good idea to keep your back muscles well conditioned. Working the back muscles can help get rid of the muffin top look when you lose the fat in that area. There are other benefits to a strong back, such as better posture and an increased ability to lift weights or do other strenuous exercises. To get healthier and lose weight, of course, you have to work on your entire body!

Love handles are extremely embarrassing to some. You are not stuck with them you can choose to do something about them. Your extra weight around the mid section can be reduced in many ways. Getting rid of body fat is as easy as maintaining proper diet and exercise. Never get sucked into the lies of miracle cures. The best way to drop these extra pounds and inches is to work hard and be patient. At some point you will return to the body you have always wanted to have.

If you’re trying to lose a few pounds, mostly around your waist like most of us, then listen up. Dieting alone isn’t going to cut it! Losing that spare tire, those muffin tops or love handles, it’s all the same. No matter what you call it, it’s still fat and is going to be tough to lose with dieting alone.

 

So what’s the answer? Exercise is the answer, and yes what a dirty word for most people. And that is where most people lose the battle, because they don’t realize that it can actually be fun! If you approach exercise as something you define as difficult, grueling, arduous, sweaty and not so fun, then do you think you will want to every do it? Of course not! That’s why you have to either a) stop using the word altogether, or b) replace exercise with your favorite form of it, such as bicycling, bowling, walking, jogging, weightlifting, volleyball, golfing, swimming, or whatever your favorite happens to be. How about dancing? You don’t usually hear anyone doing it for exercise, but that’s a very good alternative to “sweating to the oldies” in a gym, right?

 

What if you have never in your life done any type of activity such as these? You really are missing out on a lot of fun! And quite a bit of exercise, too I might add. If you truly never had a chance as a kid to discover the joy of doing some activity that involves movement and exercise, then find something. Anyone can either walk, or ride a bike, as long as you don’t have some physical disability. If you are in a wheelchair or have other physical disabilities, then you may need to seek specialized help in this regard to do activities that are best suited to your needs. But for most people, they are just in need of getting off their rear-ends and getting outside to do some exercise, so what are you waiting for?

Exercise not only burns calories, it also helps in your circulation which is beneficial as well. If you do plan on exercising, be sure to warm and then do some stretching exercises to further get your muscles ready to do some work. If it’s been awhile since you did anything active, take it slow at first. You don’t want to blast out of the gait and pull a hamstring or twist an ankle! Take things slowly, warm up and drink plenty of fluids before and during any really exhausting activity since you may get dehydrated otherwise. Check with your doctor if you are extremely overweight or have blood pressure or heart problems, having a heart attack will definitely set you back.

 

So what are the exercises and activities that burn the most calories? I thought you would never ask – here is a list of common activities and the number of calories burned.  Of course these numbers are based on a 200-pound person doing these activities for a full 60 minutes, so adjust the numbers accordingly for shorter time periods. Also, apparently skinny people burn fewer calories, how does that work? Anyway, here is the list:

 

Aerobics – 540

Bicycling – 588

Canoeing – 540

Dancing – 456

Frisbee – 288

Golfing – 348

Handball – 936

Jogging – 900

Tennis – 732

Walking – 527

Volleyball – 276

Yoga – 480

 

So there you have it, now go and take up some activity to start burning more calories! Oh and don’t forget to stick to your diet too, that’s just as important. They both need to work together in order to burn off that spare tire, those love handles, and that muffin top you have sitting around your middle!

It seems like every year there are new diets, new diet pills, and new exercise routines that promise to help you lose weight fast. Some claim to help you lose 3,5, even 10 pounds per week! Does that sound healthy to you? Most people don’t realize it’s pretty unhealthy to lose more than about 3 pounds per week, any more and you could be losing muscle weight and a good bit of water instead of just fat. That’s not healthy, you really want to lose fat only, if at all possible.

 

So if you know fad diets don’t work, what’s the best possible diet to follow? You should first of all follow a healthy diet that you know you can stick to for a long time. Being on a so-called “diet” for a few months or whatever, is really a false concept. You are always on a “diet”, you just don’t call it that! Most have a bad diet, some have a vegetarian diet, others have see food diet (yes, they eat everything they see). But if you are eating anything at all, you’re on a diet. Why not take steps to make it a healthy one?

 

A healthy diet consists of a combination of foods – certain amount of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. How you ingest these and in what combination are the real trick – you may need to cut down on certain carbohydrates such as sugars, which are readily turned into fat in the body. Some think that you have to cut fats out of the diet completely, but that isn’t true since it takes some fat in the diet to stay healthy. Fat is really needed at least in small quantities to absorb certain vitamins such as D,E, A, and K.  Without any fat, these vitamins aren’t being utilized probably. We also need some fat in the diet for healthy skin and hair, and for cells to function. Energy is another necessity we get from fat too, so you see it really plays a critical role in our bodies.

 

The problem comes in when people eat too much fat, or just too much food. The body can only burn so many calories per day, so the extra is stored as fat under the skin. Basically, that means there are two ways to lose fat: you can exercise more, or eat less. Doing both speeds up the process even more of course, and is the optimal way to lose weight. We have become a somewhat lazy society, especially since we no longer have to walk anywhere, or do manual labor any more. The majority of adults simply don’t get up and move around enough to burn the calories they ingest each day. Which is they prime reason we are so fat as a nation! Can we do something about this? You bet, and it starts with you and me.

 

Start by changing your mentality, so instead of saying “I’m on a new diet” say “I’m eating healthy now”. Get yourself a list of healthy foods that you enjoy, and stick to them. It doesn’t have to mean egg whites and chicken or potatoes with no butter, or whatever your vision of healthy looks like. Find a way to make good meals without the bad, fatty foods, add some vegetables, and also make sure you eat less too. Stop the between meal snacks, since they only fill you up with garbage calories anyway. And exercise more, even if it’s a walk around the block each night, riding your bike, going bowling, playing tennis, learning to roller blade, whatever. As long as you are moving and getting your heart rate up, it’s exercise and it’s good! And pretty soon you will see your muffin top start to disappear.

The 3-Step Combination

You may have heard this many times (and it’s true), studies have proven that and kind of weight reduction works better with a combination of diet and exercise. If you eat whatever you want whenever you want, exercise probably won’t be enough for your body to shed the pounds. If you eat right but don’t exercise, your body won’t redistribute the weight as fast to lose the muffin top fat.

Step 1 Do Some Aerobic Exercise

Aerobic exercise is necessary to rev up your metabolism. It will increase your heart rate so you will burn more calories, and this will burn off fat. You can choose whatever type of cardio exercise you like best. Some choices include swimming, elliptical machines, running, walking, and biking. Walking is a good choice since you can vary your workout. You can use a treadmill, walk outside, or walk inside along with a trainer on video or audio. Work out for at least half an hour at least four times a week. If you make a consistent effort, it will increase overall fitness and help you lose muffin top fat.

Step 2 Do Some Spot Exercises

Some people seem to be fairly thin in other areas but have excess fat in the belly area. Genetics controls that. Spot exercises work for all people, but will be especially useful for these body types to help them lose muffin top fat. The best exercises are 1. Toe touches – stand with your feet apart and touch your hand to the opposite toe, 2. Chrunches – lie on the floor and bring your elbow up to meet the opposite knee (right elbow to left knee, and left elbow to right knee), and 3. Side crunches – lie on your side and raise your leg in the air as high as you can. Repeat on the other side.

Do these exercises for fifteen minutes four times a week. If you have to, start slower at first but build up your time as soon as you can. These exercises concentrate on the belly area to help you lose muffin top fat.

Step 3 Diet/Food Choices

This area is key. You won’t lose muffin top fat without making good food choices unless you have absolutely no other fat on your body. Even so, healthy eating is crucial to your good health and good appearance. The great majority of reputable studies recommend that you choose a diet high in protien, vegetables, and high-fiber carbohydrates and avoid sugar and fat. This sounds boring and unpleasant, but it doesn’t have to be. If you take the time to find out what “good foods” you can eat and spend eleven days eating these foods and three days eating what you want, you won’t feel deprived and in two weeks you will be so happy and proud that you are on your way to lose muffin top fat.
