Since the beginning of time, one question has plagued mankind, “For Stubborn Stomach Fat, What is the Best Abdominal Exercise?” The answer to this question is…

None! Ab exercises alone do not generate enough of a metabolic response in your body to produce fat loss.

The question that is often asked is what are the best types of exercises and workouts for losing stubborn stomach fat in order to get visible six pack abs? Most people with surplus stomach fat are looking to try to uncover their abs and are searching for some “miracle abdominal workout” that is going to cut the fat off their abs quickly, and that seems to be the major problem today.

They are going about the problem entirely the wrong way! The truth is that you don’t lose stomach fat by doing ab workouts. You only build and strengthen abs muscles by doing ab workouts.

The problem is that dedicating most of your time and effort on abdominal exercises and abs workouts to try to flatten your stomach and define your 6-pack abs is simply wasting your time and it keeps you from doing the correct workout programs that will in fact trim down your body fat for good.

Now, if I were to choose an answer as to what would be the proper exercises for losing belly fat, I would definitely include full body exercises such as the following:

clean & presses, lunges, deadlifts, mountain climbers, snatches, swings, presses and pulls, sprinting,, various forms of squats, etc.

These forms of full body exercises would cover a much higher percentage of the workouts I would design instead of abs exercises directly targeting the midsection. Also, the way you combine those full body exercises into a planned workout that maximizes your metabolism is very important.

Of course I do recommend a certain amount of exercises that directly target the abs and core, but these are only a tiny fraction of the exercises that should be incorporated into your program as your time is better spent focusing on the full body exercises that stimulate the greatest hormonal and metabolic changes within your body. Additionally, even though you are not specifically targeting the abs, working out using mostly full body multi-joint combo exercises you indirectly work your entire midsection.

Take into account that the most vital factor for losing stomach fat to see your abs is actually proper nutrition. No matter how hard or extreme your workouts, if your diet is full of junk, then your abdominals will be covered with fat plain and simple.

Nutrition is without a doubt the “holy grail of getting a six pack”.

So let’s set the record straight for good…

Stop wasting so much of your time and effort on leg raises, sit-ups, crunches and all those worthless “ab contraptions” in your hard work to try to develop toned 6-pack abs. In its place focus on high intensity full body lifts using combination multi-joint exercises all tactically combined into highly effective fat loss workouts. To find the best abdominal exercise is a very tricky if not elusive topic.  You would probably think that finding one perfect exercise to flatten your abs would be simple.  This couldn’t be further from the truth.

When it comes to the topic of six-pack abs it seems that everybody has an answer about how to achieve the look you are striving to attain.  However, several factors come into play if you want to achieve sculpted abs.

First of all everybody has abdominal muscles.  Like most people, yours might be buried by a layer of belly blub.  This layer of fat poses your first problem.  You can do all the ab isolation exercises you want but until that layer of belly fat is dissolved you and nobody else will see them.

Secondly, your diet plays quite a large and important role in reducing and melting away that excess layer of fat on your belly and on other problem areas.  We all know that we should eat healthier foods but there is also some contention as to what foods are healthy.  I think for the sake of the length of this article we can safely say that we should stick to foods that are not prepackaged processed foods.  Try to eat more natural, organically raised and grown meat, fruits, nuts, vegetables, and whole grains.  The closer our food is to the state it would be growing in if it was grown or living without human intervention the better it will be for us.

The third factor that you have to consider is one that goes hand in hand with healthy eating which is exercise.  In order to lose your excess fat on your tummy and elsewhere you will need to boost your metabolism.  The easiest way to do this is by focusing in on your large muscle groups and working them.  Full body workout routines will help you to get started burning fat, increasing your metabolism, and gaining lean muscle mass.

If you can focus on your diet and full body workout routines the other factor, the belly fat will melt away.  Also full body routines will help to develop your core muscles so that when your body fat percentage is reduced to the single digit level you can then work on isolation exercises for your abs which by this time should be looking fine.

In my opinion, which is one of millions, the best abdominal exercise for isolation is the bent arm leg lift.  Again there are plenty of isolation ab exercises, this just happens to be one of my favorites. Sparring

Getting into the ring and sparring is another great way to build a solid six pack. Nothing hurts worst than an upper cut to the body thrown while boxing. Sparring in the ring creates body resistance strength training as well as coordination and timing.

Taking a punch in the gut can drop one to his knees if your stomach isn’t hard and ready.These exercises can do more to train your midsection and make your abs rock hard than any other workout possible. Vertical leg crunches
Lie on your back with your feet in the air. Your knees should be slightly bent and hands should be behind your head. Push your arms towards your knees until the shoulder blades leave the floor. At the same time you should feel your abs contracting. Go back to the beginning position and repeat again.

The captain’s chair.
This involves using apparatus to rest your arms on. You will then bring your knees up as if to resemble sitting in a chair. Hold the position for five seconds, return to the beginning position and repeat.

Straighten your left leg at an angle of 45° and try to touch your left knee with your right elbow and vice versa.
Keep repeating the process for about 12-16 times.

3. Naukasana Yoga

Method:

Lie flat on the ground, with your back on the floor.
Raise your upper body and legs simultaneously to an angle of 30 degrees to form a V-shape. Hold the posture for 30-40 seconds and contract your upper and lower abs.
Repeat this exercise for 5-6 times initially and increase to 10 times or more.

4. Lying Trunk Twist

Method:

Lie flat on your back with both hands extended out to the sides and your palm facing the sky.
Your knees should be pulled over your chest. Place a ball between your knees (optional).
Contract your abs and twist your hips to the right, getting your right knee towards the ground but not touching it.
Hold this position for a few seconds making sure your shoulders, hands and abdominal region remain stable.
Now slowly use your back to get your knees back to the starting position.
Repeat the same process on your left side.
Do this 4-5 times on either side.

5. Hanging Knee Raise

Method:

Begin hanging from the bar with your arms straight.
Bring knees up with hip flexed at approximately 90 degree.
Slowly lower legs, ensuring rest of the upper body remains stable.
Repeat the exercise for 5-6 times.

These are an excellent exercises to really strengthen your core and achieve flat abs quickly. Once you have mastered it, do the same exercises with light dumbbells in each hand.

For the beginners these exercises will be a little daunting but you need to keep going to see the results. Every week you need to challenge oneself to increase the number of reps you perform at least twice as compared to the previous week until you can comfortably perform 20 reps. And with practice you will be performing these exercising in about 15-20 minutes.

Before getting into discussions of abdominal core exercise, let me tell you that exercise or balance balls are not capable of giving you the desired results. If your personal trainer focuses on ‘core muscles’ by directing you to use the balance balls, you are wasting your time. You follow the same routines in the hope these abdominal exercises would build muscles in your midsection. However, you will see no results even after several weeks or even months.

People who have six-pack abs will tell you they concentrate more on reducing body fat and less on abdominal core exercise. Talk to someone who actually has six pack abs. Not the gurus, but the ordinary men and women who have a flat tummy will be happy to help you. Most of them have developed a perfect midsection without even having heard about ‘core exercises’.
